Oxytetracycline hydrochloride is commonly used as its hydrochloride, which is yellow crystalline powder, odorless, bitter in taste; it has hygroscopicity; it becomes darker when exposed to light, and it is easily damaged and invalidated in alkaline solution. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol.
It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Its antibacterial spectrum and principle are basically the same as those of tetracycline. It has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, meningococcus, gonorrhoeae and other gram-negative bacteria.
1. This product can be used as an alternative drug for the following diseases :(1) rickettsial disease, including epidemic typhus, endemic typhus, rocky mountain fever, scrub typhus and Q fever. (2) Mycoplasma infection. (3) Chlamydia infection, including psittacosis, venereal disease, lymphatic flesh, nonspecific urethritis, salpingitis, cervicitis and trachoma. 4) Relapsing fever. 5. Brucellosis. (6) cholera. (7) Rabbit fever. (8) the plague. (9) Chancre. The treatment of brucellosis and plague should be combined with aminoglycoside.
2. This product due to the common pathogenic bacteria drug resistance is serious, sensitive, this product only in pathogenic bacteria could be selected as drugs: this product is sensitive to the e. coli, gas enterbacteriaceae and wizard acinetobacter, shigella, haemophilus influenzae (limited to respiratory infections) and klebsiella species (limited to the respiratory tract and urinary tract infection), gram negative bacillus infection. This product is not suitable for any type of staphylococcus or hemolytic streptococcus infection.
3. This product can be used for penicillin allergy of tetanus, gas gangrene, yaws, syphilis, gonorrhea and leptospirosis and actinomycetes, listeria infection patients.
4. It can be used as an adjunctive treatment for patients with acute intestinal amoebiasis and moderate and severe acne.

3) Oxytetracycline Hcl is also used to treat acne.
4) Oxytetracycline may also be used to treat other rarer infections, suche as those caused by a group of micro-organisms called rickettsiae.
